Happy Halloween!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!
Since I couldn't be anything 'scary' for work, the decision was made to be a sugar skull. Queue me sewing hair flowers last night and getting up early this morning to do this before work. Not too scary I don't think, but got a lot of looks, and compliments.

I snapped a couple pictures this morning before heading out, and the Mr grabbed a couple quick shots just now, but after having this on my face for 12 hours, I'm looking a little less than perfect. Oh well!!!

Now to watch the most recent episode of The Walking Dead, and eat all this candy I bought today until I'm sick. Fun Dip, Pop Rocks, Popeye candy sticks, Nerds, and a bunch of bulk including chocolate covered gummi bears. Om nom nom!

Mani Saturday: Halloween Nails

I just wanted to share my Halloween mani that I've been wearing this week (which I will probably have until Wednesday, unless it severely chips within the next couple days).

Orange base coat, covered with a coat of glow in the dark, black french tips and then leopard and lace stamping. I love it! Many other people do, too. Anyone else rocking some Halloween nails??

Candy Corn Cookies

I'm always on the lookout for new things to put in cookies, partially because I now work in a candy store 3 days a week, and partially because whenever I buy chocolate chips they all get eaten before I get the chance to make cookies.. This time around I decided I wanted to use candy corn, so I bought some and came home to search the web assuming someone out there already did it.

What I found were pumpkin candy cookies, where the wrapped the dough around a candy pumpkin and then pushed another into the top when they were cooked. Now I didn't use their recipe, but I did use the same general idea with a generic cookie recipe. They turned out great and suddenly they're all gone..

I may or may not have placed too many on the tray at once..

A Curious Collective

Great news! Tamed Raven is going to be at the Curious Craft Fair (and swap!) Oct 14th. If you're in the Ottawa area, come on down and see what's going on :).

I'm going to have all my new stuff, goodies for Halloween (and maybe Christmas..) as well as a section of discounted jewelry that I want to destash. There'll be some seriously good deals not to mention everyone else at the fair that will have some great stuff I'm sure!

Wow, it's the end of August. Where did these past few months go??? Time has been flying and I'm getting into the mood where all I want to do is go on hikes in crisp air with crunchy leaves. Along with these feelings, I'm trying to figure out.. What shall I be for Halloween?? I can't believe I haven't decided yet. Sheesh.

I feel like I've been letting this blog slip over time, and I'm sorry for that. I want to get some more interesting posts on the go from now on, though I believe not having a car is definitely affecting things since I don't have as many adventures to talk about. I promise to put more effort forth though!

I hope you all have a wonderful day and evening whatever you do :). This is the first year I haven't had plans to go out somewhere (normally to a band show/concert), and it makes me a bit sad, but I've been watching horror movies with my boyfriend for the past few days and that's enough for me this year. Snugs, movies, great company and great movies. Tonight we'll watch the latest episode of 'The Walking Dead'.


If you end up having an evening in like me, grab some snacks, a movie, some blankets and even get dressed up to sit on your butt.

Whatever you do and whoever you're with, make the best of it!

More Halloween Nails

Just in case you haven't gotten your fill, here's some more Halloween nail art and a mini tute for the stitched up/franken-nails I said I would do. (Again, I get most of these off of Pinterest, some from searching on Google.. if you want photo credit just let me know :))

Easy peasy.

How to:
Paint your bass coat (these are painted on fake nails, a set I have yet to finish to put up online).
Draw red stripes wherever and however you choose.
Trace/outline them in either darker red or black, and draw your stitches on. Top coat and you are done!

Easy Jack Skellington nails! White polish and a black marker/nail pen.

Costume Inspiration: Children, Adults and Pets

I don't have kids and I don't have pets, but I still find it absolutely hilarious to see them in halloween costumes. (Enough so that I save them on pinterest when I see them.) I thought I would share some of my favorites with you for inspiration, or at least a good chuckle, along with some amazing adult costumes as well.

I think the best part of this is how stoked the baby is.

That is a great easy costume.

Halloween Makeup Tutorial: Sugar Skull (Day of the Dead)

I plan on being a sugar skull for Halloween, this or something close to it. So I figured I would do a test run and while I was at it do a tutorial for you all.

How to:

1: Cover your face in white facepaint.

2: Draw circles around your eyes for the sockets. I chose to go just above my eyebrows as it would be easier, but you could also cover your eyebrows first (many tutorials on youtube, look up 'how to cover eyebrows with a gluestick') for a sleeker look.

3: Color the sockets in! I started with a bright pink (mixed with mixing medium), then on the outter areas a darker pink, and then black.

 

4: Draw a spade shape on the nose.

5: Draw lines out from the corner of the mouth, curving upwards into a spiral. Then add vertical lines for the teeth.

6: I then drew a spiderweb design on my forehead. I've seen different styles including roses, swirls, etc..
These best designs are done with a liquid eyeliner, though I used a pencil since I don't have that.

7: Add some petal designs around the eyes and color them in. Either part way or all way around.

8: Add any other designs you want and you are good to go!

Halloween Makeup Tutorial: Gore-less wounds

Okay, this time around I'm going to share with you an easy way to make good looking wounds for Halloween, without the use of fake blood, fake skin or anything like that. Its great for costumes where you want to have some wounds but don't want to be messy or scary.

What you need is:
Red eyeshadow, facepaint, lipstain or marker
Black liquid liner or pencil liner
Black eyeshadow

How-to:

First, I drew some lines of red. narrow at the ends and a little wider in the middle. (For 2 of these, I used a red lipstain marker that I covered with eyeshadow, for the bottom right wound I used just red eyeshadow mixed with mixing medium. You can use water, mixing medium or eyedrops, but I prefer to have the base down, the color is darker).

Then trace around the red with black. For 2 I used a liquid eyeliner 'marker' and the bottom right an eyeliner pencil. I find liquid eyeliner works much better for this (but I don't have any of the normal kind).

Next, I used some black eyeshadow to blend. Darker along the black edges and a darker still in the corners.

Finally, draw in your 'stitches' any way you would like. Again, liquid eyeliner works better for this because the line is much sharper.

And there you have it! Simple wounds without all the ick. Just make sure its not on an area that's going to get too sweaty or rubbed up against things as it is only makeup :P
